California Ag Lays Out Guidelines For Cannabis Industry

Permalink Report to webmaster

California Attorney General Xavier Becerra released a that goes over current cannabis regulations and guidelines, but many are speculating it could mean more enforcement action be taken against illegal grows.

While the document does not state any new regulations, it does provide law enforcement with an extensive history on cannabis legislation and guidelines on how to deal with several issues, including medicinal cannabis.

“The Sheriff’s Office will continue to investigate and hold accountable those individuals and businesses that operate outside of the scope of the Medicinal and Adult-Use Cannabis Regulation and Safety Act,” said Lt. Erik Raney of the Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s Office.

Kristine Bates at Elevate Lompoc said the document put out by the Attorney General will help hold certain cannabis collectives and cooperatives to a higher standard, like getting licensed by the state, which can be a rigorous process.

“The only new thing as of January 10th is that now must have a state license, so it really won’t affect this business at all. It just kind of brings everyone up to the same level,” Bates said.

The report is not solely for those enforcing the law, but much of the document is also dedicated to informing medical patients and physicians about their rights and involvement when it comes to the cannabis industry.
